A small painted and lacquered box with a lid in black. This piece was created in the 1920s in the USSR. It is lacquered in a glossy black, with a hand-painted scene of a tzar on the top. The man seems to be holding a falcon, with a traditional Russian building in the background. Around each side on the bottom of the box is a hand-painted gold patterned border. When the lid is removed, it reveals a glossy red interior. On the top of the box, at the bottom of the painting, is the artist’s signature in a gold brown. This would be a wonderful piece to add to a box collection, or for displaying on a coffee table or on a bar.
