Vintage Design
Absolutely amazing pair of 1930s Scandinavian Modern easy chairs attributed to Danish architect Viggo Boesen. The chairs are made from nutwood and has been reupholstered in beautiful natural sheepskin. They were most probably designed by Boesen in the early 1930s and manufactured at the retailer “Hos Wullf”. The design is stunning and the level of craftsmanship needed to execute them is just as amazing. The armrests are made from carefully sourced pieces of wood and sculpted by a master cabinetmaker. Viggo Boesen was a Danish architect who, in addition to architecture, was mainly active in the field of interior design. Boesen’s designs can be attributed to the style of functionalism and Danish modernism. Viggo Boesen loved and studied nature and integrated its formal language into his designs. Like nature, which produces flowing forms and is in harmony with its surroundings, Boesen’s furniture also follows this organic flow. The anatomy of the seated person is absorbed in Boesen’s armchairs as a kind of passive form, which gently hugs the body of the seated person and gives warmth and security. Boesen’s maxim: “My furniture should delight the eye of the beholder, but also be solid and durable.”
