Vintage Design
A vintage Italian walnut and inlaid chest of drawers/commode with gilt painted decoration. Circa 1950s.
This decorative chest has an inverted design and retains the wonderful original hand painted marble design top. The drawers have marquetry olive wood inlays, with the original brass turned handles.
The top has signs of wear on the painted finish. I have coated it with an aquacoat, which will help preserve the finish from more loss, and will make it more durable to water and heat.
The walnut has been waxed. It has some signs of use and shows a few marks in places, expected with use. There is a small part veneer repair to the right hand side, please refer to photograph number 14.
The drawers’ sides and backs are made of solid beechwood, there are signs of use to the interiors. The chest is veneered in walnut.
