An unusual French silver mounted faience pottery inkwell hand painted with blue and white designs dating from the 19th century. The domed shape inkwell stands on a rounded base with a quality silver rim with a shaped and ribbed body decorated with panels containing objects and floral and leaf designs. The inkwell has a silver top and hinged cover which opens to reveal an original removable glass liner. The inkwell has a thin wood covered base with an old printed partial label attached and has an impressed French silver assay mark to the cover.
In good condition with some minor rubbing to the painted base. The wooden insert to the base is also warping.
