F M Collins was a Faience Department artist and a pioneer in the field of Impasto painting, the successful launching of which owed a great deal to her talents. Unfortunately she died two years after joining the Lambeth studios and signed pieces by her are exceptionally rare and highly sought after.
This stunning pair of ovoid bodied vases have tall slender flaring cylindrical necks and are applied with Iznik inspired Impasto scroll patterning in tones of blue and green on a cream colored ground. The body has further stipple and incised patterning around the upper and lower body and to the lower neck with contrasting darker glazes applied around the foot and upper rim and to two rings applied around the lower neck. Both vases have incised artist CFM monograms to the base with impressed Doulton Lambeth Impasto marks incorporating the date 1879. One vase is also marked ‘Arrabian’ and both are numbered 153.
In good condition with a 1cm surface stress hairline under the top rim.
