An exceptional and scarce William Brownfield Aesthetic Movement porcelain jug decorated in the Japanesque taste by Christopher Dresser and dated 1878. This very finely made jug is decorated in the ‘Hudson’ design with the body decorated with relief molded carp swimming amidst weed with some chasing a water beetle. The jug has a decorative border around the base of the neck with a relief moulded cross hatch pattern applied to the neck with rope designs to the handle. The jug is decorated in natural glazes with a brown decorated stipple ground to the body and has relief molded makers and pattern marks to the base along with a diamond date registry mark for 1878.
In excellent original condition.
