The sign is shaped as a prism with a triangular cross section and is made of a hardwood possibly oak, which has been varnished.
The sign is colour stenciled on both the facing sides, back and front, with the letters CAMEL and with BOOTS below in yellow. The letters that form the logo are in three dimensional upper case with yellow fronts and black sides. This logo is trademarked and was designed specifically for CAMEL products with the letters C and E in the shape of a camel’s footprint.
CAMEL is a well known trade name of American cigarettes and the logo on this sign is one that was developed and used by them. Camel cigarettes as a company started in 1913 by Richard Reynolds. This sign is for advertising Camel Boots and the boots company now trades as Camel Active with a large range of outdoor clothing as well as footwear.
We date this shop sign to pre 1980 around the 1960s.
Overall a great and novel addition to your footwear wardrobe.
