This characteristic antique Anglo Japanese magazine rack was well made in rare Tortoiseshell bamboo, in the late 19th century. It shows a basic, elegant construction, with outwards pointing legs. It has a transparant design and a warm and friendly appearance. On both sides a black panel is to be seen, with a hand painted floral scenery nicely referring to and emphasizing the Japanese inspiration. Very elegant and a bit exotic, this magazine rack has an irresistible charm due to its design and the choice of material. The tortoiseshell or Tiger bamboo which was used has a great color and speckled appearance and is a rare material which was mostly used in high-end English furniture from the late 19th century.
This original piece nicely complements your interior. It is in a nicely aged, vintage yet good condition.
