Vertical portrait painting of a man by American artist Genie Brock. (Oklahoma, circa early 20th century) The subject is of an older gentleman with a gray head of hair and beard. He seems to wear a dark jacket and is painted on a dark ominous background. Oil on canvas and signed at lower right by Oklahoma painter Genie Brock. Housed in the original frame. Frame originates from Mexico and the exterior is hand carved in intricately scalloped design edges. (Almost pie crust inspired) The center of the frame is gold craquelure on a black background. The interior of the frame is of the same wood as the exterior in a simple linear design. A fantastic example of American Realism.
How we would style it:
Though portraits are trending at the moment, we must note that portraits have been a mainstay of traditional homes for centuries. A highly personal piece, the idea of housing a once much-loved portrait in a home is like owning a piece of history.
