A very fine antique Copeland parian bust of the Princess of Wales sculpted by F.L. Miller for the the Crystal Palace Art Union and dated 1863. Probably made to commemorate the marriage of Albert Edward Prince of Wales to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863. The parian bust stands raised on a rounded pedestal base attached at the base with the bust very finely modelled with the head of the princess wearing beads through her hair with similar earrings and with a royal gown over one shoulder molded in low relief with the royal insignia. With a natural white parian finish the bust has impressed COPELAND together with CRYSTAL PALACE ART UNION marks and with F. L. MILLER Sculpt to the back along with the date mark 1863. The base is also marked CRYSTAL PALACE ART UNION.
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
There are a few small chips around the top of the pedestal base but hidden by the join and otherwise in very fine condition.
