An early 19th-century American wood steamer trunk. A fabulous antique trunk painted in a muted green. Created from wood, the sides are reinforced with wood and metal clasps. Metal handles fank each side. The interior of the trunk is covered in traditional yellow paper with a black pattern design. A latch attaches to the front and does not include a key or lock. The top is “humped” which makes storing items such as blankets or pillows easy. On the top at each side, are star rosettes affixed all along the edge. Inside, on the top, is an interesting etching on paper of a work scene. It’s hard to tell what exactly it says, however, it does look very industrial and specific to the period.
This piece would be fabulous if used in a nursery to hold blankets or toys. It is also just a pretty piece that would be great to display at the foot of a bed or on top of a credenza.
