An antique Masonic, Aesthetic Movement painted wooden podium/pedestal, circa 1870.
The podium/pedestal being of triangular form and retaining the original painted finish, on each face the letters F.C.B are painted on blue, orange and red backgrounds. The letters stand for “Friendship, Charity and Benevolence”, an aphorism of the Knights of Pythias, who were a fraternal (Masonic type) organisation founded in Washington D.C. in 1864.
The painted decoration in the Aesthetic taste is in good condition, there is a spot of charming wear to the top where the gavel was sounded during meetings.
