An Aesthetic Movement walnut and brass mounted folding low screen. Circa 1870.
The double sided fabric has been replaced with modern Walter Crane, Swallows and Almond Blossom Tapestry Weave to one side, and duck egg 100% silk to the other.
The screen is in very good condition, showing some signs of use.
The screen is sturdy with no loose joints. The walnut frame has been wax polished.
Probably made by the likes of James Shoolbred, or similar high end maker.
The folding ends work on brass hinges that can fold to either side. They can be angled to suit. The left hand side (with the weave fabric front-most) does not stay in position very well if angled set more than photograph number 4 shows.
