A stunning quality British Aesthetic Movement brass mounted oak stationery box with gothic influences dating from around 1880. The box stands on a wide rectangular base with chamfered edging and is of tall, wide and narrow shape with a curved top carved and constructed from oak panels. The front of the box is mounted with a pressed embossed brass panel with raised floral and shield designs set within six panels subdivided by a raised edge. The rounded cover is similarly designed with a hinged back and small ball handle to the front and opens to reveal a series of compartments with slide out wooden dividers. The stationery box is a wonderful example combining the designs of the gothic and Aesthetic Movements and displays well. The box is not marked.
